I was born and raised in Burnaby, BC, a suburb of Vancouver. I have had an affinity for art since an early age and stuck with it throughout high school where I discovered other creative outputs like photography and graphic design. At the time, Moscrop Secondary (home of the Panthers) still had a dark room and I loved the process of taking and developing photos myself. I owe a great deal to my grade 12 art teacher, Mr. McLeod, who helped me prepare a portfolio that would set me off down a path I am still following today.

During my formative years I was drawn the stark imagery and simple reds, blacks and whites of Soviet Propaganda – in particular the image of Che Guevera that Rage Against The Machine used in their album artwork and live performances. Parallel to this was the imagery of Andre the Giant that Shepard Fairey used in his graffiti and subsequent artwork and apparel. These two artists in particular would be my first foray into left-wing political views and street art. I would later discover the works of Barbara Kruger, Frank Stella, Oscar Reutersvärd, Robert Rauschenberg, and countless other comic book and science fiction artists who would influence my artwork and design. I was also intrigued by the writings of Marshall McLuhan, the Canadian philosopher, who would push me towards the avenues of marketing through his work Understanding Media (1964).

I enjoy the process of artmaking, particularly with print making techniques like lithography, screen, and linoleum block printing. I continue to keep my drawing skills fresh as I work on creating my own graphic novel which I hope to start releasing this year. I also appreciate the practice of branding and I realize the importance of it in today’s modern landscape. Over the past five years at Hartley and Marks, I have worked in many different areas of design, primarily in the form of marketing and brand development. More specifically, these areas include web design, lifestyle and product photography and display, packaging, poster and logo design.

I currently reside in a humble townhouse in Port Moody, BC, with my wife and two children and our dog, Frank.
